Am I the only one that pictured this when Captain Hobbes was first mentioned? 
And , Hobbes' handshake with Deryn is kinda awkwardly drawn, but Hobbes has ginormous hands, and Deryn's are by no means big. I had to shrink his hands a leetle!
And if you tell me you haven't heard of Calvin and Hobbes, somebody's going to have to die.
